The Untrusted Web is a book that brings the visual language of ‘The Untrusted Web’ to print. What you see is a color field created by overlaying icon-sized images. These images were scraped from various precarious download websites. All images are transformed to cyan, magenta, and yellow monochromes. Overlaying the three color layers in printing fashion creates individual unique images. All possible combinations of layers were created to achieve a maximum amount of images. In total, the book counts 188 pages.
The concept for ‘The Untrusted web’ comes from our experiences with websites we do not completely trust. The overwhelming aesthetics or their amount of fake download buttons and ads makes us feel uneasy and suspicious. By transforming these stress-inducing images into a ‘Rothko-like’ overwhelming color field, my aim is to evoke a more peaceful but equally overwhelming emotion.
